Three Dead, 10 Injured in Fatal Ishaka–Kagamba Road Crash

Police in western Uganda say three people were killed and 10 others injured in a crash on the Ishaka–Kagamba Road in Bushenyi District. The Nile Post reported that the incident happened on Monday, September 7, 2026, at about 4:40 p.m. in Omukatagu, involving a Toyota Hiace minibus locally known as a “Drone” and carrying mourners travelling from Kashaka in Mbarara District to Rwererere in Rukungiri District.

Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura said preliminary findings point to excessive speed as the likely cause. According to the police account, the driver failed to handle a sharp bend safely, causing the vehicle to lose control. Emergency teams responded at the scene, and the injured were taken for treatment at Kampala International University (KIU) Teaching Hospital and Kitagata Hospital.

The bodies of the three people who died were taken to the mortuary for post-mortem examination. Police used the crash to renew warnings about speeding, especially on corners and other dangerous sections of highway.

The incident adds to ongoing road safety concerns in Uganda, where authorities frequently cite speeding, careless driving and poor handling of bends as common factors in serious crashes. The report underscores the risks faced by passengers on inter-district routes, particularly when vehicles are travelling with mourners or other large groups.
