Thousands turn out for 3rd Annual CoRSU Disability Walk

What the report says
CoRSU Hospital and its partners held the third annual CoRSU Disability Walk at MUBS Sports Ground in Kampala at the weekend, drawing support from corporate sponsors, government representatives and disability advocates. According to The Independent Uganda, the event was organized as a nationwide fundraising drive to help finance surgery and rehabilitation for children living with physical disabilities.
The campaign is seeking UGX 400 million to support care for 100 children. The report says the money would cover surgery, therapy, assistive devices and follow-up rehabilitation, at a time when many children are said to remain on waiting lists each year because of limited funding. CoRSU said the effort is intended to reduce its backlog of unfunded pediatric surgeries and improve access to specialized care.
The walk was officially launched by Kampala Lord Mayor Balimwezo Ronald and Chief Walker Rotarian Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, with CoRSU chief executive Robert Ochai also highlighting the hospital’s mission. The article says sponsors included firms and organizations such as fireworks advertising, DTB, Vivo Energy Uganda, Finn Church Aid Uganda, MUBS, Smile Train and Humanity & Inclusion.
The fundraiser also reflects a broader public-health issue in Uganda, where the report cites high demand for disability and rehabilitation services. CoRSU says it has operated since 2006 and has treated large numbers of patients over time, underscoring the role such campaigns can play in extending care to children who might otherwise go untreated.
