TechSpot reports that Light, a Brooklyn-based consumer electronics company, has introduced the Light Flip, a $299 minimalist flip phone intended for people who want fewer smartphone distractions while keeping basic communication tools. The device uses a clamshell design inspired by early-2000s flip phones and is positioned as an “anti-smartphone” because it excludes common attention-heavy features such as social media, web browsing, streaming and shopping apps.

According to TechSpot, the Light Flip includes a 2.8-inch non-touch OLED screen, an old-style T9 keypad, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a 50-megapixel rear camera and a replaceable 1,800mAh battery. It also supports 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and wired headphones through a 3.5mm jack. The phone will be offered in six colors and includes a lanyard notch, adding to its retro design cues.

The handset runs LightOS, described as a pared-down Android-based system focused on functions such as calls, texts, camera, calendar, music playback and alarms. TechSpot, citing comments Light co-founders Joe Hollier and Kaiwei Tang gave to ZDNet, says the company is aiming partly at 18- to 30-year-olds who want to reduce constant connectivity. The report also cites Light’s internal research suggesting many millennial and Gen Z consumers would consider a simpler phone to cut back on social media use.

TechSpot says preorders are open with a $39 deposit, though shipping is not expected until April 2027. The phone is slated to be sold unlocked through Light’s website, with an alternative two-year $39-per-month service plan from the company. Availability through major U.S. carriers remains unclear.
