Third Infantry Division wins Shs15m after finishing second in CDF drill contest

Nile Post reports that Uganda’s Third Infantry Division received Shs15 million after placing second among 15 formations in the second edition of the Chief of Defence Forces Drill Competition. The division’s drill team, led by Maj. Godfrey Mugenyi, took part in several events including foot drill, cane stick, pace stick, crop stick and sword drill to finish as first runner-up. The team also earned individual honors for Best Pace Stick Drill and Best Foot Drill.

At a ceremony held on Tuesday to celebrate the result, Division Commander Brig Gen Michael Walaka Hyeroba praised the team for discipline, teamwork and commitment. He said the performance reflected military professionalism and encouraged soldiers to apply the same standards in their daily duties, especially in maintaining peace and security in Karamoja and nearby areas. Maj. Mugenyi thanked the division leadership for the financial, logistical and moral support given during preparations and the contest.

The ceremony also recognized Pte. Owich Amina, who was awarded a medal as Best Pistol Shooter at the Inter-Forces Shooting Competition in Gulu. Hyeroba said it was the first time such a medal had been presented in the division’s history and presented the recognition as a signal that excellence is open to all soldiers, including women. The event was attended by senior division officers, brigade and battalion commanders, and other personnel.
