IGN reports that CD Projekt will formally reveal The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past during Opening Night Live at gamescom 2026. The expansion is planned for release in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, extending CD Projekt’s 2015 role-playing game more than a decade after its original launch and long after the Blood and Wine expansion.

According to IGN, Songs of the Past is the third expansion for The Witcher 3 and will again put players in control of Geralt of Rivia. CD Projekt Red is co-developing the project with Fool’s Theory, a studio described as including veterans who previously worked on The Witcher 3. The company has indicated the story is standalone but also connected in a broader way to the future of the series, with joint CEO Michał Nowakowski previously describing it as a loose lead-in to The Witcher 4 rather than a direct prologue.

IGN also notes that CD Projekt has teased several story clues, including a new sword seen in artwork tied to Belleteyn Night and the presence of Geralt’s companion Dandelion. CD Projekt staff said the weapon is important to the expansion’s story, while also indicating that the add-on’s scale should be in line with players’ expectations from Blood and Wine. More Gwent cards are also planned, and work continues on cross-platform mod support for The Witcher 3.

The reveal is significant because The Witcher 3 remains one of CD Projekt’s most successful titles, with IGN citing 65 million copies sold. It also arrives as the company develops The Witcher 4 and a Cyberpunk sequel, making Songs of the Past part of a wider push around CD Projekt’s major franchises.
