The Unforgivable film shines at the Uganda Film Festival

Ugandan film The Unforgivable drew recognition at the 2026 Uganda Film Festival Awards, where two members of its team received individual honours, according to Sqoop Uganda. Michael Wawuyo Jr. won Best Actor in a Feature Film, while Simon Agola took Best Sound Design for his work on the production. The film’s awards came after it had already secured six nominations at the festival.

Sqoop reported that the film was also shortlisted for Best Screenplay, Best Actress in a Feature Film, Best Make-Up, and Best Post-Production/Editing. The project was directed by Matovu Martin Eric and produced by Humphrey Nabimanya, who leads Reach A Hand Africa. The festival recognition adds to the film’s visibility in Uganda’s entertainment sector.

The Unforgivable centres on Salaama, a teacher whose life is disrupted after her husband loses his job and turns to alcohol abuse and violence. As her own childhood trauma returns, she is pushed to confront abuse, revenge and healing while trying to protect her daughter. The film’s story fits within the broader Men+ creative series, which uses drama to examine men’s roles in family health, shared household responsibility and changing social norms. That context helps explain why the production is being presented as both an artistic and social-impact project.
