Deadline reported that Christopher Nolan’s Universal release “The Odyssey” delivered an unusually strong first Monday at the domestic box office, with its updated figure landing at $18.67 million. The July 21 report said that total made it the biggest Monday of 2026 in the U.S. and Canada so far, ahead of “Toy Story 5” at $17.3 million and “Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu” at $16.4 million on Memorial Day.

According to Deadline, the film’s four-day domestic total reached $141 million, about 48% higher than “Oppenheimer” over the comparable Friday-to-Monday period. Its three-day domestic opening was revised to $123.5 million, while the international launch was listed at $140.2 million, bringing the global debut to $263.7 million. Deadline said that was Nolan’s best worldwide opening, surpassing “The Dark Knight Rises.”

The report also placed “The Odyssey” high among Nolan’s Monday grosses, behind only “The Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises,” and fifth among Universal’s best Mondays, behind titles including “Jurassic World” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” Deadline noted strong Imax demand in Los Angeles and New York, and said the film is keeping its Imax screens in its second weekend.

The performance matters because it signals sustained early demand for a large-scale auteur-driven release at a time when premium formats are a major part of theatrical strategy. Deadline said its estimates came from sources and that Universal did not respond to a request for comment.
