BBC Sport reports that potential investment in Liverpool has taken a new turn after Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was linked with a consortium exploring a minority stake in the Premier League club. The report says the group is led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia, who recently ended an 18-year spell as a director and co-owner of Queens Park Rangers. Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s owner, has confirmed Bhatia’s interest in a possible “strategic minority investment,” while sources close to Bhatia would not comment on whether Bezos had been approached, saying only that talks had been held with several potential investors. FSG also declined to comment.

According to BBC Sport, Bhatia’s departure from QPR appears to clear the way for him to lead investors interested in a reported 30% stake in Liverpool. The BBC cites Forbes in describing Bezos as the world’s fourth-richest person, with an estimated net worth of $256.9bn, and notes that he has not yet invested in sport despite previous links to possible purchases of the NFL’s Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks.

The report frames the talks as significant because Liverpool are financially strong, having recently reported record revenues above £700m. BBC Sport says a possible deal with the Bhatia consortium, as reported by the Financial Times, would value the club at about £4.5bn, raising questions over FSG’s long-term plans after buying Liverpool in 2010 for £300m.

Supporter reaction remains cautious. Neil Atkinson of The Anfield Wrap told BBC Sport that fans should ask why very wealthy investors want involvement in a Premier League club at such a high price.
