What the report says

BikeRadar previewed the equipment expected to feature in stage 16 of the 2026 Tour de France, the race’s only individual time trial. The 26.1km route runs from Évian-les-Bains to Thonon-les-Bains on Lake Geneva, but the outlet notes it is not a simple flat test: riders face roughly 500m of climbing, including a 9.7km ascent to the Côte de Larringes averaging 4.3%, followed by a fast descent and a technical urban finish.

The report focuses on seven leading time-trial bikes inspected ahead of the Tour, with the clearest emphasis on Tadej Pogačar’s Colnago TT2. BikeRadar says Colnago developed the model around Pogačar’s Tour ambitions, cutting claimed frame weight compared with the older TT1, narrowing tube shapes and using components such as ENVE wheels, Carbon-Ti parts and a Fizik 3D-printed saddle. The outlet weighed his spare bike at 8.14kg and suggested his primary setup may be lighter.

Other highlighted machines include Matteo Trentin’s BMC Timemachine Mpc for Tudor Pro Cycling, using very wide-set thin fork blades and seatstays, SRAM Red AXS 1x gearing and DT Swiss wheels; Mauro Schmid’s Giant Trinity Advanced SL, fitted with Cadex wheels, Vittoria Corsa Speed tyres and a Shimano 1x setup; and Tom Pidcock’s Pinarello Bolide F, a carbon version linked to technology used on Filippo Ganna’s hour-record bike.

The feature matters because stage 16’s mixed climbing, descending and technical finish could push teams to balance aerodynamics, weight, gearing and handling rather than simply choosing the fastest flat-course setup. BikeRadar said minor race-day equipment changes were likely, especially gearing choices for the climb.
