Teso, Lango Chiefs Call for Stronger Ties

The Paramount Chief of Teso, Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot Etimeileng, has urged closer relations between the Teso and Lango communities, saying their shared history, clan links and cultural traditions should be used to advance unity and development. The remarks were made on Friday, September 25, during a visit to Lira City, according to Dokolo Post.

The report says Emorimor first met the Lango Paramount Chief, Won-Nyaci Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune, at his home in Senior Quarters before both leaders attended a cultural gala at Uganda Christian Institute School of Nursing and Midwifery in Gwengabara-Boroboro. Emorimor praised Lango leaders for supporting Teso students and for creating a welcoming environment for education in Lira. He also pointed to the 2024 Ateker gathering in Soroti as one effort that helped strengthen ties.

Won-Nyaci said Lango and Teso are historically connected and should continue building their relationship. He described Lango as a meeting point for Luo and Ateker communities and told Teso visitors they are welcome at the Lango Palace. The Queen of Lango, Agong Margaret Odongo Okune, also welcomed the visit and suggested deeper engagement between the two queens.

The meeting reflects broader cultural efforts to encourage cooperation, peace and exchange between the two institutions. Emorimor also invited Lango leaders to Teso’s 10th coronation anniversary and heritage celebrations set for October 31 in Amagoro, Kenya.
