Tesla (TSLA) Q2 2026 earnings preview: strong deliveries, murky profits - Electrek

What the report says
Electrek reports that Tesla is scheduled to release its second-quarter 2026 financial results on July 22 after the market closes, with an earnings call set for 5:30 p.m. ET. The preview says investor attention is likely to shift from vehicle volume to profitability, because Tesla has already disclosed a record second quarter for deliveries.
According to the report, Tesla delivered 480,126 vehicles in Q2, a 25% increase from a year earlier and about 74,000 above analyst expectations. Production was 451,758 vehicles, meaning Tesla reduced inventory by delivering more cars than it made during the period. Electrek also notes that Tesla deployed 13.5 GWh of energy storage, up from 9.6 GWh in Q2 2025 and 8.8 GWh in Q1 2026.
On financial expectations, Electrek cites Wall Street consensus revenue of roughly $26.4 billion, while Estimize is around $25.9 billion. Both would be higher than Tesla’s $22.5 billion in Q2 2025 and $22.38 billion in Q1 2026. Analysts expect non-GAAP earnings of about $0.53 per share, with Estimize slightly lower at $0.52, but the wide range of estimates reflects uncertainty over whether Tesla used price cuts or financing incentives to drive sales.
The key metric highlighted by Electrek is automotive gross margin excluding regulatory credits, which was about 12.5% in Q1. The report says a stable margin would support the case for a stronger quarter, while a decline would suggest the delivery surge came at the expense of profit. Shareholder questions submitted through Say Technologies also show continued interest in Optimus, robotaxi expansion and accountability for missed robotaxi guidance.
