Tesla to launch Cybercab robotaxi in Texas, U.S. on Sept 3

What the report says
Tesla is expected to unveil its Cybercab robotaxi in early September, according to a report cited by The Independent Uganda from Teslarati. The event is said to be scheduled for Sept. 3 in Austin, Texas, where Tesla is headquartered, though the company has not publicly confirmed the date. Teslarati reportedly received an invitation to the launch.
The reported rollout would add to Tesla’s push into autonomous vehicles. The Cybercab is described as a purpose-built robotaxi with no steering wheel or pedals, relying on self-driving software for near-full autonomy. The vehicle was first shown in October 2024 and has become central to Tesla’s broader robotaxi plans.
The article says Tesla CEO Elon Musk has previously suggested the Cybercab could be sold to private buyers for under $30,000. It also notes that the new vehicle is expected to operate alongside Model Y cars already used for autonomous rides in limited real-world conditions.
Citing The Information, the report adds that Tesla may first use Cybercabs to provide rides for employees on public roads before expanding them into a commercial robotaxi service. If confirmed, the launch would be another step in Tesla’s strategy to make self-driving transport a larger part of its future business and artificial intelligence ambitions.
