What the report says

Yahoo Finance reported that Tesla shares fell sharply Thursday after the company posted mixed second-quarter results, with revenue ahead of Wall Street forecasts but profit measures below expectations. The stock closed down 14.5% at $319.69, its lowest finish since Aug. 5, 2025, as investors weighed weaker earnings against Tesla’s spending plans for artificial intelligence-related products and infrastructure.

According to the report, Tesla generated $28.24 billion in quarterly revenue, above the $26.32 billion Bloomberg consensus estimate and 26% higher than a year earlier. Adjusted earnings per share were $0.33, short of the $0.50 expected, while adjusted EBITDA of $3.2 billion also trailed the $4 billion forecast. Free cash flow was negative $1.09 billion, a smaller cash burn than the estimated negative $3.64 billion.

The company said it remains on schedule to begin initial Optimus humanoid robot production later this year and described continued Robotaxi expansion, including operations across seven major metro areas and new unsupervised rides in several Florida cities. CEO Elon Musk said Robotaxi miles are growing rapidly but that safety will constrain the pace. CFO Vaibhav Taneja said 2026 capital spending would exceed $25 billion, reflecting investments in Optimus, AI data centers and Cybercab production.

Yahoo Finance also noted that Tesla’s strong revenue followed a large delivery quarter, with 480,126 vehicles delivered, up 25% from a year earlier, and energy storage deployments of 13.5 GWh. Analysts cited uncertainty over when Tesla’s heavy spending on Robotaxi and Optimus will produce returns, while also noting regional sales differences and potential U.S. regulatory scrutiny of vehicle door egress systems.
