Teacher remanded over aggravated defilement of 16-year-old pupil

Nile Post reports that a 25-year-old primary school teacher, Nathan Odeke, has been remanded to Kauga Government Prison after appearing before the Mukono Grade One Magistrate’s Court on an aggravated defilement charge involving a 16-year-old pupil. Odeke is identified in the report as a teacher at Mother’s Pride Nursery and Primary School in Gulama Village, Goma Division, Mukono Municipality.

According to the prosecution account cited by Nile Post, the alleged offences happened on two separate occasions at the school. The first is said to have occurred during a morning break in mid-May 2026, while the second allegedly took place on July 10, when many pupils and staff were away in Tororo for the school principal’s wedding. Prosecutor Babra Anguzu told court that investigations had been completed.

The report says another student became suspicious during the second alleged incident and informed school authorities, after which the matter was reported to police and Odeke was arrested. Grade One Magistrate Praise Ahurira did not take a plea, noting that aggravated defilement is treated as a capital offence and is outside the trial jurisdiction of the magistrate’s court.

Odeke was remanded until July 28, 2026, when the case is expected to return for mention ahead of committal to the High Court. The case matters because it involves allegations against a teacher within a school setting and will now move through procedures reserved for serious offences, including any bail application before the High Court rather than the lower court.
