They appeared restrained in court, and their lawyers said they would oppose extradition. Both remained in custody after the hearing.

According to CNN, UK authorities say Andrew Tate faces 42 charges, including rape, human trafficking, assault and indecent images of a child, while Tristan Tate faces 17 charges, including rape, sexual assault and trafficking. The UK Crown Prosecution Service and Bedfordshire Police said the allegations involve seven women and alleged conduct in the East of England between 2010 and 2017, with new charges brought Sunday after reports from four additional victims. The brothers have denied all allegations.

Defense attorney Joseph McBride asked that the Tates be released while the extradition case proceeds and has publicly urged the Trump administration to intervene, casting the matter as tied to free speech. CNN reported, citing officials and sources, that Secretary of State Marco Rubio had not spoken with the brothers or their attorneys and that the State Department had no plans to act on their request; Trump was also not expected to become involved.
