Talks advance for consortium to buy Liverpool stake

What the report says
Talks are moving forward over a proposed minority investment in Liverpool Football Club by a consortium that includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, BBC Sport reports. The group is said to be targeting about a 30% stake in the Premier League club, with the discussions described as advancing rather than completed.
According to BBC Sport, the consortium is led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia and also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s owner since 2010, confirmed last month that the group had shown interest in making a strategic minority investment. BBC Sport also notes that FSG previously sold a minority stake in Liverpool to Dynasty Equity.
The report places the talks in the wider context of Bezos’s large personal wealth and his past interest in sports ownership. BBC Sport says he has previously been linked with potential bids for the Washington Commanders and the Seattle Seahawks, but did not go ahead with those efforts. If completed, the Liverpool deal would mark a notable new entry into football ownership for one of the world’s best-known business figures.
More broadly, the development suggests continued outside investor interest in elite football clubs, especially those with global brands and large commercial reach. The current stage remains exploratory, and no final agreement was reported.
