Al Jazeera, citing Reuters, reported that Slovenia’s Tadej Pogacar won the Tour de France for a record-equalling fifth time on Sunday, July 27, 2026, after completing the final stage into Paris without a decisive setback. The UAE Team Emirates XRG rider’s victory was his third consecutive Tour title and his fifth in seven years, placing him alongside Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain on the all-time list of five-time champions.

Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel finished second overall, while Mexico’s Isaac del Toro took third place in the general classification. Pogacar also won five stages during the three-week race, reinforcing his position as the dominant rider of this edition. His path was eased when Jonas Vingegaard, a two-time Tour winner and one of his main expected rivals, withdrew after a Stage 15 crash, according to the report.

The final stage was won by Mathieu van der Poel, who broke away with Pogacar on the Montmartre climb about 10km from the finish. Pogacar faded in the final kilometre, while Van der Poel held on in a photo finish ahead of teammate Jasper Philipsen, with Mads Pedersen third.

The 2026 Tour began with the Grand Depart in Barcelona and also marked an unusual first: no rider from France, Italy or Spain won a stage, despite those countries’ central place in cycling’s three Grand Tours.
