Associated Press reports that Slovenia’s Tadej Pogacar won the Tour de France for a fifth time on Sunday in Paris, matching the race’s all-time record for overall victories. The 27-year-old crossed the final stage in the yellow jersey and celebrated with UAE Team Emirates XRG teammates on the Champs-Élysées after a dominant three-week performance.

According to AP, Pogacar’s victory was built on aggressive climbing, several stage wins and composure under pressure. He finished 6 minutes, 26 seconds ahead of Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel in the general classification. Mexico’s Isaac Del Toro, Pogacar’s 22-year-old teammate and a Tour debutant, placed third, 9 minutes, 42 seconds behind. Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard, a two-time Tour winner and expected key challenger, left the race after crashing on Stage 15.

The win puts Pogacar alongside Eddy Merckx, Miguel Indurain, Jacques Anquetil and Bernard Hinault as the only five-time Tour champions. AP reported that Pogacar has now finished on the podium in all seven Tours he has entered and has 26 Tour stage victories, including five in this edition.

The final 88.7-kilometer stage in Paris was won by Dutch rider Mathieu van der Poel, who held off the field for his second stage victory of this Tour. Pogacar, who won the Giro d’Italia in 2024 but has not won Spain’s Vuelta, did not commit to racing the Vuelta, which AP said begins Aug. 22.
