Swansea City have signed Scotland striker Ross Stewart on a free transfer, with the 30-year-old agreeing a three-year contract after leaving Southampton. The move was reported by BBC Sport Football and comes as Swansea continue to reshape their forward line ahead of the new Championship campaign.

BBC Sport said Stewart departed Southampton in June after not reaching terms on a new deal. He brings experience at Championship level from spells with both Southampton and Sunderland, and Swansea head coach Vitor Matos described him as a proven performer who could also provide leadership in the dressing room. Sporting director Ben Stevens said the club valued Stewart’s experience and his standout form last season.

Stewart scored 11 goals in 33 appearances for Southampton last season, having been limited by injury in the previous two campaigns. He also played a part in Scotland’s squad at this summer’s World Cup, making a substitute appearance against Morocco. Earlier in his career, he rose through Scottish football before succeeding at Sunderland, where he helped the club win the EFL Trophy and earn promotion.

His arrival may add uncertainty around Zan Vipotnik’s future, with the Slovenia international expected to draw transfer interest after finishing last season as the Championship’s top scorer. Swansea have already made several permanent signings this summer and could still make further changes to their attacking options.
