Sudhir Ruparelia Banks UGX 2.25 Billion Dividend from Bank of Baroda

What the report says
KAMPALA — Watchdog Uganda reports that Ugandan businessman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia has received a dividend payout of UGX 2.25 billion from his stake in Bank of Baroda (Uganda) Limited. The payment is linked to the lender’s financial year ended 31 December 2025 and was shown in a ceremonial cheque Ruparelia shared on social media.
According to the publisher, the cheque was dated 19 August 2026 and made out for UGX 2,250,981,000. Ruparelia said the money represents dividends from his shareholding in the bank. Public records cited in the article indicate he holds about 375.16 million shares, or roughly a 2.5% stake, making him one of the company’s notable individual investors.
The report says the payout reflects Bank of Baroda Uganda’s approved dividend of UGX 6 per share for 2025, up from UGX 4 per share the previous year. It also notes that the bank posted profit after tax of about UGX 156.8 billion for 2025, and that shareholders approved the higher distribution at the annual general meeting before it was executed after regulatory clearance.
The story is a reminder of how listed banks can generate substantial returns for long-term shareholders in Uganda’s financial sector. Watchdog Uganda added that neither Bank of Baroda nor the Ruparelia Group issued further comment alongside the social media post.
