Humanitarian conditions in parts of Kordofan, Sudan, are deteriorating sharply as conflict, displacement and rising food prices leave families struggling to survive, according to Dabanga via AllAfrica. In Ed Daein locality in West Kordofan, activist Huweida Abdelrahman Saleh said some displaced people have resorted to eating ambaz, the residue left after oil is extracted from sesame and groundnuts and normally used as animal feed, because basic food is too expensive and income sources have largely vanished.

Saleh said a malwa of millet now costs SDG 20,000, while aid delivery has been difficult and the rainy season has further isolated the area. She described a humanitarian response team that planned to help 100 families but encountered about 1,000 people in need, forcing it to stretch its own funds to provide 150 food baskets. She said the situation is especially alarming in an area that is normally agricultural and has farms and orchards.
