Sudan: TSC President Meets African Peace and Security Council Delegation

What the report says
Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council president and armed forces commander, Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, met on Sunday at the Republican Palace in Khartoum with a delegation from the African Union Peace and Security Council, according to Sudan News Agency via AllAfrica. The meeting was held in the presence of Sudan’s foreign minister, Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salem.
The delegation was led by Ambassador Mohamed Khalid, Algeria’s permanent representative to the African Union and chair of the council for August. In remarks reported by SUNA, he said the talks covered peace, security and stability in Sudan and that the discussion was constructive. He also reiterated the council’s support for Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity.
The AU delegation said the war in Sudan continues to cause heavy casualties, damage to infrastructure and a worsening humanitarian situation. It said lasting peace depends on dialogue, national reconciliation and a comprehensive political settlement, and it welcomed steps linked to a peace initiative and the return of government functions to Khartoum as a sign of renewed state administration.
The delegation also called for a more inclusive transitional process, national consensus and eventual constitutional rule through free and fair elections. It emphasized the African Union’s role in the peace process, opposed foreign interference and rejected any parallel authorities that could weaken Sudan’s unity. As general background, the African Union has remained involved in efforts to support negotiations and humanitarian stabilization in Sudan since the conflict escalated.
