Sudan: Sudan Condemns Suicide Drone Attacks On El-Obeid

What the report says
Sudan’s government said it strongly condemned drone attacks on the city of El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, on Friday, according to the Sudan News Agency report distributed by AllAfrica. The attacks were described as suicide drone strikes and were attributed by the government to the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. Preliminary information cited in the report said civilians were injured and homes and property were damaged.
The statement framed the strikes as violations of international humanitarian law and said targeting residential areas and civilian facilities amounts to a war crime. Sudan said legal responsibility could extend to anyone involved in planning, ordering or carrying out the attacks, and it placed responsibility for the incident on the RSF based on the reports it had received.
The government also appealed to the United Nations Security Council, the broader UN system, the African Union and other international bodies to take urgent steps to protect civilians, stop attacks and curb the flow of weapons and drones to armed groups. It said relevant authorities had been directed to provide medical help to those injured, support affected residents, and document evidence for possible legal proceedings. The episode adds to concern over continuing violence affecting civilian areas in Sudan’s ongoing conflict.
