Sudan’s army claims dozens of RSF fighters killed in Nyala attack

What the report says
Sudan’s army said it carried out air attacks on Friday against Rapid Support Forces positions and command centres in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur and the seat of the RSF’s self-declared administration. The military claimed the strikes killed dozens of RSF fighters, according to Al Jazeera’s report, which also noted that the army has repeatedly used drones in Darfur as it tries to regain territory held by the paramilitary group.
The RSF gave a different account, saying the army hit a busy livestock market in Nyala and killed 30 civilians, including 17 women and five children. Al Jazeera reported that the RSF did not confirm or deny whether its own fighters were also killed in separate attacks. A human rights group, Emergency Lawyers, said on X that a market was struck in Nyala and that the drone was affiliated with the Sudanese army.
The report comes amid intensifying fighting between the Sudanese military and the RSF, which have been at war since 2023. Al Jazeera said the conflict has spread across several parts of Sudan, with violence in Darfur and South Kordofan continuing to escalate. The broader war has killed tens of thousands and triggered what the United Nations describes as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
