Sudan: IOM - 200k+ Displaced Across Kordofan As Fighting Intensifies

What the report says
The International Organization for Migration says more than 200,000 people have been displaced across Sudan’s Kordofan region since late 2025 as fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces intensifies. The report, carried by Dabanga through AllAfrica, describes rising displacement in multiple areas, including Sheikan locality around El Obeid and parts of South Kordofan.
IOM said the humanitarian situation is deteriorating as violence, damage to infrastructure and seasonal flooding add to the strain on civilians. In El Obeid, recent attacks reportedly damaged the main electrical transformer, leading to prolonged power outages that disrupted water delivery, healthcare and communications. IOM Director General Amy Pope warned that families are losing access to essential services and said urgent action is needed to protect civilians and restore basic systems.
The article also cites World Health Organization figures showing Sudan’s health system remains under severe pressure, with many facilities out of service because of the war, shortages and utility disruptions. In South Kordofan, local authorities said 17,340 people had fled to Ambong district in the Nuba Mountains after recent fighting in Heiban locality. Officials said shelters were being prepared and appealed for emergency aid, including shelter materials, clean water, medical support and sanitation, as the rainy season raises the risk of disease.
