Sudan: Int'l Coalition Condemns Attack On WFP Aid Convoy in Kordofan, Sudan

A group of European and North American diplomatic missions, acting through the Coalition for Atrocity Prevention and Justice in Sudan, has condemned an attack on a World Food Programme humanitarian convoy in South Kordofan. According to the report distributed by AllAfrica from Dabanga, the incident took place outside Dilling on 30 August, while the convoy was transporting aid to Kadugli.

The convoy was carrying food assistance marked with WFP emblems, and the coalition said movement notifications had been submitted to the relevant parties. The attack injured civilian truck drivers and damaged humanitarian supplies. WFP said more than 50 tonnes of food were destroyed, enough to support about 5,800 people for a month, and the agency reported that its operations have also been disrupted by several aerial attacks this year.

The coalition said strikes on humanitarian workers and aid deliveries breach international humanitarian law and worsen civilian suffering in Sudan, where fighting has increasingly affected markets, health facilities, displacement sites and other essential services. It called for the protection of civilians and aid personnel, unimpeded humanitarian access, and an investigation that could establish accountability. In broader context, humanitarian access has become a major concern in Sudan’s conflict as relief agencies struggle to reach people facing acute need.
