What the report says

Sudan’s Prime Minister Kamil Idris convened an emergency meeting in Khartoum with ministers, state ministers and undersecretaries after the close of the three-day Strategic Hope Forum, according to the Sudan News Agency via AllAfrica. The session focused on the government’s next steps, with particular attention to an urgent austerity plan intended to cut public spending and help relieve pressure on households facing a rising cost of living.

Officials also reviewed measures aimed at improving basic services and supporting people affected by the war. The Trade Ministry said it had opened eight subsidised sales outlets in Khartoum State and was preparing a reduced-price bread program that could also expand to other states. The meeting further discussed sending an aid convoy to North Kordofan to deliver supplies to communities experiencing humanitarian hardship.

Several ministries presented updates on sector priorities. The Foreign Affairs Ministry briefed the cabinet on Sudan’s international engagement and regional ties, while the Energy Ministry outlined the government’s “Light and Water” program for fuel and electricity supply. The Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry reported progress on water access projects, and the Culture, Information, Antiquities and Tourism Ministry described plans to repair institutions damaged by the war.

Taken together, the meeting signaled an effort by the authorities to balance fiscal restraint with emergency support measures, while also trying to restore essential services and damaged public institutions in a country still affected by conflict and economic strain.
