Sudan: Finance Minister, Egyptian Foreign Minister Discuss Strengthening Economic and Trade Cooperation

Sudan’s Finance Minister Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim and Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel-Aatty met in Khartoum on Sunday to discuss ways to deepen economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, according to the Sudan News Agency report distributed by AllAfrica. The talks focused on improving coordination between relevant authorities, sharing expertise in financial policy, and making trade flows easier.

The meeting also covered broader investment and development ties, including possible joint work on infrastructure rehabilitation projects. The report said roads, transportation and the health sector were among the areas discussed, with the aim of supporting Sudan’s early recovery and reconstruction efforts. Egyptian expertise in those fields was mentioned as a potential resource.

The Sudanese and Egyptian officials also discussed ways to expand bilateral trade and strengthen long-standing relations between their countries. Abdel-Aatty, according to the report, highlighted Sudan’s participation in the African Business Summit linked to the El-Alamein Business Forum in Africa, presenting it as an opportunity for African investment partnerships and for advancing reconstruction cooperation with Sudan. He also reiterated Egypt’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions. The meeting reflects continuing regional interest in Sudan’s recovery and in maintaining economic ties despite the country’s wider crisis.
