Sudan: Drone Strikes and Deadly Explosions Kill Scores of Civilians Across Sudan

What the report says
Dabanga, via AllAfrica, reported on 9 October 2026 that a wave of drone strikes, explosions and armed clashes killed and injured civilians in several parts of Sudan, including Blue Nile, North Kordofan, West Kordofan and South Darfur. The report said attacks on displacement shelters and residential areas were among the deadliest incidents, with local authorities, aid-linked groups and residents describing a worsening security situation.
In Blue Nile, the regional government blamed the Rapid Support Forces for a drone strike on a displacement shelter in Abu Shandi, in Wad El Mahi locality, saying 30 civilians were killed. The Emergency Lawyers group said its early information pointed to a different toll and stressed that the final number was still being verified. The same report described fresh displacement from nearby villages and continued drone and ground attacks around Ed Damazin and other areas.
In North Kordofan, an RSF drone strike on El Obeid injured six people and damaged homes and vehicles, while a previous attack on a shelter for displaced people had already killed five, according to the article. In West Kordofan, four displaced people were killed by an unexploded landmine in Babanusa, a city the report said has seen repeated mine deaths and amputations. The piece also said mine contamination remains a major risk for returnees and newly displaced people.
Separately, 11 people were killed in South Darfur after a dispute in Wad El Fursan escalated into armed violence involving an RSF member, a motorcycle trader and others. The overall picture described by Dabanga was one of expanding civilian harm, displacement and unexploded ordnance risks amid Sudan’s wider conflict.
