What the report says

The World Food Programme has condemned an airstrike that hit two clearly marked aid trucks in Sudan’s South Kordofan state over the weekend, according to UN News, as distributed by AllAfrica. The attack killed one driver and involved contracted vehicles carrying WFP food supplies on the route between Dilling and Kadugli. The agency said the trucks were visibly identified as humanitarian transport.

WFP said important details about how the incident unfolded and how much of the cargo was damaged are still being assessed. It called for a prompt, impartial investigation and for those responsible to be held accountable. The organization also said the attack followed another incident a day earlier, when one of its trucks struck an explosive device after delivering food assistance in Dilling.

The incidents highlight the hazards facing aid operations in Sudan, where fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces has continued since April 2023. WFP said it remains committed to delivering assistance to people who depend on humanitarian support, while urging parties to the conflict to protect civilians, safeguard aid workers and infrastructure, and allow safe access for relief shipments. More broadly, aid agencies have warned that the war has created severe humanitarian needs across the country.
