What the report says

Rangers responded strongly to last weekend’s disappointment at Dundee by beating St Johnstone 4-0 in the Scottish Premiership, according to BBC Sport Football. Manager Derek McInnes had called for a reaction, and his side delivered a dominant performance at home, aside from a brief spell early in the second half when St Johnstone threatened to get back into the match.

BBC Sport’s match report said the victory was built on an attacking selection change, with McInnes opting to start Kevin Kelsy and Ryan Naderi together up front. Kelsy scored twice, while Naderi added a goal and an assist, offering evidence that the pair can lead Rangers’ attack while Lawrence Shankland and Youssef Chermiti remain unavailable. Rangers also created a heavy volume of chances and had much more of the ball, with the report noting they finished well ahead in expected goals and shot count.

The win was also notable because it included Rangers’ first goal from a corner this season, highlighting improvement in an area the club had struggled with earlier in the campaign. Former Rangers players on BBC Radio Scotland’s Sportsound said the result should boost confidence, particularly for the strikers. McInnes said the display was one of Rangers’ best for some time and pointed to the team’s growing momentum.

The result sets Rangers up for a difficult away league match at Hearts on Wednesday, which will be McInnes’ first return to Tynecastle since moving from the Edinburgh club to Rangers in the summer.
