CNBC reported that U.S. stocks ended lower Monday as investors tracked oil-market volatility tied to renewed military exchanges between the United States and Iran. The S&P 500 slipped 0.19% to 7,443.28, the Nasdaq Composite eased 0.05% to 25,508.07, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 307.16 points, or 0.59%, to 51,839.26. Apple’s more than 2% decline weighed on the blue-chip index.

According to CNBC, the U.S. had carried out a ninth consecutive day of strikes on Iran overnight. Sentiment briefly improved after Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei indicated that messages were still being exchanged through intermediaries and that talks could proceed if aligned with national interests. Oil later moved higher after President Donald Trump posted that Iran would pay for the deaths of three U.S. service members. U.S. crude settled 0.9% higher at $83.23 a barrel, while Brent rose about 1.3% to $89.22.

Chip stocks showed some recovery after recent weakness. CNBC said Micron Technology rose nearly 2%, Astera Labs gained 1.9%, Teradyne advanced 3.5%, and Advanced Micro Devices added 1.6%, while the VanEck Semiconductor ETF was only slightly positive. Wells Fargo Investment Institute’s Darrell Cronk described the semiconductor and AI trade as undergoing a “healthy reality check,” warning that the intermediate-term trend had been disrupted.
