USA Today reported that Texas coach Steve Sarkisian used SEC Media Days on July 23 to describe quarterback Arch Manning as a much more dangerous player entering his second season as the Longhorns’ starter. Speaking ahead of the 2026 season, Sarkisian said Manning benefited from the difficulties of the previous year and is better prepared after experiencing adversity.

According to USA Today, Manning’s first full season as starter was uneven despite strong overall production. The former five-star recruit threw for 3,163 yards with 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions, while adding 399 rushing yards and 10 rushing scores. His year included early struggles in losses to Ohio State and Florida and a poor passing performance against UTEP, but he finished stronger, with 19 of his 36 total touchdowns coming in Texas’ final six games.

Manning said at the event that he has matured and become more present after going through difficult moments, while Sarkisian pushed back on the intense preseason hype and later criticism that surrounded him. The coach said Manning did not create the Heisman Trophy or NFL draft expectations placed on him, and praised him for continuing to work and remain a strong teammate.

The report noted that Texas has high national ambitions and added offensive help through transfers including Cam Coleman, Hollywood Smothers and Raleek Brown, alongside returning targets such as Ryan Wingo and Emmett Mosley V.
