Because he and Lopes were scheduled as the first bout, a weather-related delay disrupted his warmup, forcing him to cool down and restart shortly before the walkout. He noted Lopes faced the same delay and said he needed to adjust better. Garcia also fought without coach Greg Jackson in his corner, with Mike Winkeljohn and Joey Villasenor present, and said Jackson’s absence changed the communication he is used to between rounds.

The loss carried a personal impact after Garcia returned home to New Mexico. He told MMA Fighting his young son cried after learning his father had lost for the first time in four years. Garcia said he used the moment to explain that losing means trying again, and he framed the defeat as motivation for his return.
