Stanbic renews Entebbe matchplay sponsorship as Kacungira, Katutsi triumph

What the report says
Golfers Sam Kacungira and Vincent Katutsi won the 2026 Stanbic Bank-sponsored Entebbe Matchplay Championship after defeating Richard Mwami and Tony Kisadha in a sudden-death playoff that ended on the 21st hole. The Observer reported that the final was the result of five months of competition at Entebbe Golf Club’s par-71 lakeside course, and that the pair claimed their first Stanbic Matchplay title after recovering from pressure late in the match.
According to the report, Kacungira and Katutsi had been 2-up at the ninth hole before Mwami and Kisadha rallied to move ahead. Kacungira then made a key shot on the 18th hole to keep the contest alive and send it into extra holes. The playoff stretched across three additional holes before the winning putt was made on the 21st.
The champions’ prize package included a trip to the DP Tour Championship in Dubai, a Stanbic Infinite Card, an initial deposit of Shs 500,000 in a free investment account, and Stanbic MediProtect cover, plus partner rewards. At the awards ceremony, Stanbic Bank chief finance officer Ronald Makata said the bank was renewing its partnership with the tournament, underscoring continued corporate support for the event. The renewal matters because title sponsorship helps sustain one of Uganda’s notable matchplay golf competitions and signals the bank’s continued investment in the sport.
