Stanbic Champions Sustainability Readiness for Clients

What the report says
Stanbic Bank Uganda has launched a new ESG Client Readiness series and a free Sustainability Academy as part of celebrations marking 35 years in Uganda. The bank announced the initiative in Kampala on Thursday, saying it is intended to help local businesses build sustainability skills that can improve access to investment, strengthen competitiveness and support growth.
The first forum in the series brought together business leaders, clients and other industry stakeholders to discuss how environmental, social and governance practices can open doors to financing, wider market access and more resilient enterprises. Stanbic said the programme sits under its Positive Impact Agenda, which includes climate resilience and environmental sustainability among its priorities.
Chief Executive Mumba Kalifungwa said the bank wanted to share practical knowledge and tools that can help firms grow alongside Uganda’s economy. Other speakers, including Stanbic’s head of sustainability and client coverage executives, said stronger sustainability systems are increasingly important for attracting international capital and joining regional and global value chains. The bank also pointed to broader national ambitions, including Uganda’s goal of major economic expansion by 2040, and said private firms will need stronger governance and responsible environmental practices to support that effort.
The Sustainability Academy is accessible free of charge on mobile phones, tablets and computers, and covers topics such as renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture, water and wastewater management, carbon markets, and ESG principles.
