Stanbic Bank Unveils Revamped Kalangala Branch to Boost Island Banking

Stanbic Bank Uganda has reopened its refurbished Kalangala branch, with the company presenting the upgrade as part of its 35th anniversary celebrations and a wider effort to improve access to financial services in the Ssese Islands. The bank said the project updated both the interior and exterior of the branch and added modern equipment intended to make transactions smoother and the customer experience more efficient for island residents.

The branch was officially inaugurated by Mark Ocitti, the Chief Executive of Stanbic Uganda Holdings Limited, during his first familiarization tour since taking up the role in July, according to Watchdog Uganda. He was joined by Stanbic Bank Uganda Chief Executive Mumba Kalifungwa, as well as Sylvia Mulomi, the head of people and culture, and local leaders.

Ocitti used the occasion to emphasize the group’s role in supporting customers, shareholders and surrounding communities, while Kalifungwa focused on customer experience and the bank’s inclusion agenda. He said the refurbished branch is meant to help bring island communities further into the formal financial system, with particular attention to women, young people and farmers. In broader context, the move fits a common banking trend in Uganda and elsewhere toward combining physical branches with wider digital and agent networks to reach underserved areas.
