St. Gracious SS Lira Targets 100 Government-sponsored University Students in 2027

What the report says
St. Gracious Secondary School (SAGRASS) in Lira says it is aiming to send more than 100 students to public universities on government sponsorship next year, building on a steady rise in the number of learners gaining those places. According to the school’s principal, Martin Ojok Anyuru, SAGRASS has sent 53 students this year, up from 44 in 2025 and 32 in 2024.
The school presented the update during a dedication ceremony on October 3, 2026, for 1,092 candidates from its main campus and Leo-Atubo campus. The event also featured messages of encouragement from religious and school leaders, who urged candidates to remain disciplined, calm and prayerful as they prepare for examinations. The guest of honour, Dr. Moses Odongo of the National Fellowship of Born Again Pentecostal Churches of Uganda, commended teachers and advised parents to keep supporting their children.
Ojok said the rising results reflect the school’s academic growth and its wider role in Lira and northern Uganda. He pointed to contributions such as attracting teachers, creating jobs and helping raise the school’s profile. The school also said it has offered students exposure beyond Uganda, including participation in an international chemistry competition in Brazil in 2025 and an academic engagement in Moscow in 2026. The article says SAGRASS, which was officially opened in 2019, has built a reputation for strong performance and is aiming to strengthen that position in the region and nationally.
