Ssingo Residents Mark Kabaka’s 33rd Coronation with Community Service Campaign

Nile Post reported that residents of Ssingo County in Buganda have stepped up voluntary community work under the kingdom’s Bulungi Bwansi programme ahead of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s 33rd coronation anniversary. The activities took place in Ssabagabo Sub-county, Ssekanyonyi, and brought together Buganda Kingdom officials, local leaders, health workers, CBS Pewosa Association members and area residents.

According to the report, participants cleaned parts of Ssekanyonyi Town, opened up drainage channels along roads, cleaned markets, and worked around Ssekanyonyi Health Centre IV and a nearby police station. They also gave items such as soap and sugar to mothers admitted at the health facility, in what organizers presented as support for vulnerable community members.

Barnabas Ssenabulya, the Gombolola Chief of Ssabagabo Ssekanyonyi, urged residents to treat sanitation as a routine responsibility rather than an activity limited to celebrations. Grace Nantege, the CBS Pewosa chairperson in Ssingo County, praised the Kabaka’s focus on women, families and community health, while Dr. Yawe John, the medical superintendent of Ssekanyonyi Health Centre IV, welcomed the donations to patients, especially expectant and new mothers.

The report places the exercise within Buganda Kingdom’s broader annual activities marking the Kabaka’s coronation anniversary. Bulungi Bwansi is described as a flagship community development initiative that encourages voluntary service, environmental conservation, better sanitation and assistance to vulnerable groups across the kingdom.
