What the report says

Communities from Ssese, Buddu and Ssingo counties have contributed Shs48.77 million to Buganda Kingdom’s Luwalo lwaffe initiative, according to Nile Post. The money was presented during a courtesy visit to the Kingdom headquarters by subjects from the three counties, with support also coming from the Rotary Club of Kampala Islanders.

The article said the funds will go toward Buganda development programmes, including efforts to improve access to healthcare for people living on islands and along waterways. Some of the contributions came from sub-counties in Buddu, Ssingo and Ssese, while the Rotary club separately gave Shs6 million toward a planned mobile water-based hospital.

Buganda’s Second Deputy Katikkiro and Treasurer, Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, received the contributions and urged unity behind the Kabaka and the Kingdom’s development agenda. He stressed collective action and said the Kingdom should stay focused on practical development work. Buganda Minister Joseph Kawuki thanked the Ssese communities for participating and encouraged continued support for the initiative.

The report also noted that the mobile hospital is expected to be built in Mutunda and serve people who live or travel on the islands and waterways, where access to conventional health facilities can be difficult. In a wider context, the contribution reflects Buganda’s continuing use of local fundraising to support community projects and strengthen engagement across its counties.
