Sserunkuma Takes Over 4th Division as Busizoori Moves to Land Forces Headquarters

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces has carried out a change in leadership at its 4th Infantry Division in Gulu City, with Major General Wilberforce Sserunkuma Karate taking over command from Major General Felix Busizoori. The handover was marked by a farewell ceremony at the division headquarters, where military officers and local leaders attended the event reported by Nile Post.

According to the report, Busizoori has been moved to the Land Forces headquarters as deputy commander, part of a broader reshuffle of senior UPDF officers. Local officials praised his tenure in northern Uganda, saying he helped strengthen relations between the army and communities and supported efforts to respond to insecurity, including gun violence and criminal gangs in some areas.

Busizoori thanked residents and senior military leaders for the opportunity to lead the division, while urging troops to remain professional and continue serving the public. Sserunkuma, who previously commanded the 3rd Infantry Division in Moroto, said he would build on the work already done and keep working closely with civilians and local leaders.

The 4th Infantry Division covers security operations in parts of northern Uganda and West Nile, including border areas near South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Nile Post reported that Deputy Chief of Defence Forces Lt Gen Samuel Okiding said such changes are routine and should not alarm residents.
