Sserunjogi donates 10,000-litre water tanks to church, mosque in Bukomansimbi

Nile Post reports that Bukomansimbi South MP Hassan Mukiibi Sserunjogi has handed over two 10,000-litre water tanks to Maleku Church of Uganda and Butenga Mosque in Bukomansimbi District. The donation is intended to improve clean-water access for worshippers and nearby residents, and to support rainwater harvesting in an area affected by repeated shortages.

According to the report, the tanks are expected to help the two institutions collect and store rainwater for use during dry periods, when parts of the district face acute scarcity. Speaking at the handover events, Sserunjogi described safe water as a basic need and encouraged communities to conserve rainwater rather than let it go unused. He also urged leaders at the church and mosque to maintain the tanks so they can serve communities over the long term.

Church leaders at Maleku Church of Uganda said the facility had been struggling to secure water for worship, sanitation and other needs, with some Christians walking long distances during dry seasons. At Butenga Mosque, Imam Sheikh Salim Buwembo thanked the MP for fulfilling a pledge to the Muslim community, while mosque chairperson Sheikh Mohammed Yakub said the tank would reduce the burden of searching for water during extended dry spells.

Nile Post framed the donation as part of Sserunjogi’s wider community development activities in Bukomansimbi South. More broadly, rainwater harvesting is often promoted in water-stressed rural communities as a practical way to store seasonal rainfall for later use, although its effectiveness depends on maintenance, storage capacity and rainfall patterns.
