Sserubiri urges voters to elect competent LC1 leaders ahead of village elections

Nile Post reported that Presidential Special Advisor Ssewava Sserubiri has called on Ugandans to choose capable and accountable Local Council One leaders as the country prepares for village-level elections. Speaking ahead of the polls, Sserubiri urged voters to look beyond party loyalty, personal ties or affiliation with the ruling National Resistance Movement when assessing candidates, and instead consider integrity, leadership ability and commitment to community development.

According to the report, Sserubiri said weak LC1 leadership can affect the implementation of government programmes, local dispute resolution, mobilisation for development activities and public trust in state institutions. He argued that village leaders are central to whether national initiatives reach communities effectively, and warned that ineffective office holders can cause residents to blame broader government structures for failures at the grassroots.
