What the report says

KAMPALA — Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo has been named Uganda’s Leading Conference Hotel 2026 at the World Travel Awards, according to Watchdog Uganda. The recognition was announced with promotional material highlighting the resort’s large conference facilities and its role in Uganda’s hospitality and events market.

The publication says the property overlooks Lake Victoria and includes 476 guest rooms and 41 meeting venues. It describes the resort as a major venue for business tourism and as a regular host of diplomatic delegations, regional summits and large international meetings. Among the events it has accommodated, Watchdog Uganda mentioned the 19th Non-Aligned Movement Summit.

The award adds to what the report describes as another international honor earlier in 2026, when the venue was said to have been named the world’s Best Luxury Convention Resort at the Luxe Global Awards. Taken together, the accolades reflect how Uganda is seeking to strengthen its position in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions sector, commonly known as MICE.

More broadly, such recognitions can matter for tourism marketing and investment because they help position a destination as capable of hosting high-value conferences and official events. Watchdog Uganda attributed this as a sign of growing competitiveness for Uganda’s business travel sector, while noting the resort’s continued importance to the country’s luxury hospitality profile.
