What the report says

BBC Sport reports that London City Lionesses have completed the signing of Spanish youth international midfielder Daniela Arques from Sporting, with the move still requiring international clearance. The 20-year-old has agreed a three-year contract with the Women’s Super League club, adding another Spanish player to a squad being reshaped during an ambitious transfer window.

According to the report, Arques arrives after an influential season in Portugal, where she made 32 appearances for Sporting and became an important first-team player. She will work under London City’s Spanish head coach Eder Maestre and joins a growing Spanish contingent that BBC Sport says already includes high-profile summer recruits Alexia Putellas, a two-time Ballon d’Or winner, and former Barcelona defender Mapi Leon.

Arques has also built a strong record at youth international level. BBC Sport notes that she was part of Spain’s Under-19 squads that won consecutive European titles in 2024 and 2025 before progressing to the Under-20 setup. At club level, she started out with Athletic Club de Murcia and later had spells with Alhama and Levante in Spain’s top division before moving to Sporting.

The signing matters because London City are strengthening their squad for WSL competition while targeting players with both development potential and experience in elite youth and senior environments. Arques said, in comments reported by BBC Sport, that the move to the UK represents an opportunity to grow as a player and person while learning from more experienced teammates.
