SpaceX will launch a satellite repair drone with robot arms to Earth orbit today: How to watch it live - Space

What the report says
Space.com reported that SpaceX launched Northrop Grumman’s MRV-MEP satellite-servicing mission from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida on July 21. A Falcon 9 lifted off at 5:15 p.m. EDT, carrying a Mission Robotic Vehicle and three Mission Extension Pods for SpaceLogistics, a Northrop Grumman subsidiary. SpaceX later said the upper stage released the MRV about 35.5 minutes after launch, followed by the three pods at roughly 10-minute intervals.
The mission is intended to extend the working lives of satellites in geostationary orbit, the high-altitude region commonly used by communications, weather and other spacecraft because satellites there remain over the same area of Earth. The MRV carries two robotic arms, with robotics technology linked to DARPA and the Naval Research Laboratory, and is designed to attach the extension pods to separate client satellites. Space.com, citing other reporting, said Optus reserved one pod and Intelsat booked the other two.
According to Northrop Grumman material cited by Space.com, each pod can provide propulsion support for orbit control and momentum management, potentially adding years of service for a typical GEO satellite. The MRV is also described as capable of inspection, relocation, repair and upgrades in orbit, and includes a refueling interface approved by the U.S. Space Force.
The launch builds on Northrop Grumman’s earlier Mission Extension Vehicle work, including MEV-1 and MEV-2, which serviced Intelsat satellites without using separate pods. Space.com noted that this Falcon 9 booster was not recovered because of mission performance needs, making its 32nd flight its last.
