What the report says

Namibia’s youth wrestling team returned from the South African Youth National Championships in Cape Town with 22 medals, according to a report distributed by AllAfrica from The Namibian. The weekend event featured competitors across several age groups, and the Namibian Wrestling Federation said its athletes also performed strongly in the Presidents competition.

The federation said the team finished with 10 gold medals, five silver medals and seven bronze medals. Individual medalists listed in the report included young wrestlers in the U8 through U15 categories, along with women’s competitors, showing that Namibia fielded a broad youth contingent at the tournament. The federation described the results as evidence of the athletes’ preparation and training.

Beyond the medal count, the NWF said its main aim in taking part was long-term athlete development. It said exposure to a larger and highly competitive event helps young wrestlers build experience and resilience. The federation also thanked the South African Wrestling Federation for hosting the championship and noted the value of continued competition between the two countries.

The report also said Namibian referees Alvaro Eixab and Erika Theron represented the country as technical officials, and that they were due to continue on to the Veteran World Championships in Amman, Jordan. The federation thanked coaches, parents, clubs and supporters for helping make the trip possible.
