South Africa: 'Next Batch of RTMC Traffic Learnership' Posts Are a Scam, Says South Africa's Road Traffic Agency

What the report says

Africa Check, republished by AllAfrica, reports that social media posts and videos claiming the South African Road Traffic Management Corporation is recruiting for a new traffic learnership intake are fraudulent. The fake adverts, shared on platforms including Facebook, TikTok and YouTube, refer to a “next batch” of RTMC training and direct users to unverified websites and WhatsApp numbers, but provide little other detail.

The RTMC, South Africa’s national road traffic agency, publicly rejected the claims on 17 August 2026. In a message on Facebook and again on its verified X account, the agency warned the public not to trust the recruitment notice and said people should rely only on its official website and official social media channels for current job or training information. The agency did not announce any such learnership through the circulating posts.

The report matters because job scams often use the names of well-known public institutions to lure applicants into sharing personal information or responding through private messaging apps. Africa Check also notes that posts with limited details, unverified contact points and WhatsApp referrals are common warning signs of recruitment fraud. While the article is focused on this specific case, the broader lesson is to confirm opportunities directly with the institution before applying.
