South Africa: Government Announces Fuel Adjustments

What the report says
South Africa’s government has announced a new round of monthly fuel price changes for November 2026, with the adjustments to take effect at midnight, according to SAnews.gov.za as republished by AllAfrica. The announcement came from Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources Gwede Mantashe and reflects the usual formula used to set local fuel prices.
The update shows small petrol price cuts and larger diesel reductions, while some other fuels will become more expensive. Petrol 93 and Petrol 95 are both set to fall slightly, and both diesel grades are due to drop by more than R1 per litre. By contrast, illuminating paraffin and liquefied petroleum gas will rise, with LPG showing a sharper increase in some areas, including the Western Cape.
The department said the changes were influenced by several external and domestic pressures, including higher Brent crude prices, elevated international product prices, a weaker rand against the US dollar, and the Slate Levy system. The report also pointed to global supply tightness, seasonal demand for middle distillates, and ongoing conflict-related disruption as factors affecting diesel and paraffin costs.
The monthly adjustment matters because fuel prices feed into transport, household energy use, and broader inflation. In South Africa, the government reviews these prices each month using international oil market conditions and exchange-rate movements as key inputs.
