SONA: Over 50 SMEs complete green jobs bootcamps

What the report says
More than 50 small and medium-sized enterprises from Kampala Metropolitan, Busoga and West Nile have completed three-day business growth bootcamps focused on Uganda’s green and circular economy, according to The Independent Uganda. The training formed part of the WeWork – Green and Decent Jobs for Youth project, delivered through the Good Green Business Accelerator by SHONA Group in partnership with Enabel and the Government of Uganda, with support from the European Union and the Kingdom of Belgium.
The participating businesses were chosen from a larger pool of applicants and work in areas such as renewable energy, sustainable farming, smart irrigation, eco-tourism, waste management, green construction, green manufacturing, digital green marketplaces, sustainable fashion and interior design. The publisher said the programme is designed to address common barriers for green enterprises, including limited finance, weak business skills, high collateral demands and skills gaps.
The initiative is taking place against the backdrop of Uganda’s push for private-sector-led growth, job creation and economic transformation, priorities also reflected in President Yoweri Museveni’s 2026 State of the Nation Address. SHONA Group said the goal is to help entrepreneurs build stronger value chains, become more investment-ready and create decent jobs for young people while reducing environmental harm.
The article said selected firms will continue receiving advisory support, with some eligible for catalytic matching grants and talent-matching grants that subsidize part of the wages of newly hired young workers for up to six months.
